Salida Schools will be celebrating Colorado Proud Day on October 1st, which kicks off National Farm to School Month. 

Colorado Proud School Meal Day on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 is a day to celebrate Colorado agriculture and to educate school children about healthy eating.

The menu for the day features:

• Ground beef from Blue Range Ranch - Saguache, CO


• Apples from Williams Orchard LLC - Cedaredge, CO


• Baby carrots from Hungenberg Produce Company - Greeley, CO
  


• Broccoli from Headwaters Farms - Buena Vista, CO
  


• Cabbage, radishes, cucumbers, and lettuce from Guidestone Colorado - local in our backyard in Salida, CO

Students and staff will also have an opportunity to participate in the National Crunch Off - an lunch time event featuring Colorado grown apples with tasty flavors perfect for an October day!

Farm to school enriches the connection communities have with fresh, healthy food and local food producers by changing food purchasing and education practices at schools and early care and education settings. Students gain access to healthy, local foods as well as education opportunities such as school gardens, cooking lessons and farm field trips. Farm to school empowers children and their families to make informed food choices while strengthening the local economy and contributing to vibrant communities.
